not your ordinary day~

my day started off normal, clock in do not pass go and precede directly to starbucks for morning espresso shots by your favorite baristas...so midday we had a break in the action and i asked my boss if she could measure my eyes as it had been a while and i have been noticing some changes in the right eye and i had i a new frame i wanted to get new lenses in....so long story short she says, you need to see the retinal specialist as you have fluid behind your retina ! and i say what? silently freaking out!
so she makes the appointment stat, i go and thank goodness my cousin works there, and more long story short after getting dye injected into my arm that goes to my eyes and pictures are taken, the doctor tells me that i have abnormal blood vessels growing behind my retina leaking fluid and close to the optic nerve as he is showing me the pictures and the treatment is getting injections(needle in the eye) with a chemo drug 3times at 6week intervals....and i say still in shock f*uck! and he would like to do it as soon as possible and my cousin says today? and he said yes and i say f*ck!!

so here i am getting numbing drops and other gobbity gook put in my eye, before they can stick the needle in my eye loaded with the chemo drug and as added excitement for afterwards the dye that was injected in my arm makes your pee this very bright yellow! so all in all it was a pretty exciting day!!! so you will have to wait another 6weeks before we can do this all over again!!!

needless to say i am so glad i work for my eye doctor as i would had blown this getting my eyes examined longer.........

and i did have 2glasses of prosecco tonight, i thought i was deserving of that!!

monday supper~

here at good manor we eat our fair share of mexican food!!
it is one of our favorites
ole!
and today i came across
this recipe on the internet for something new and
julie made it all come together, it was quick, simple and delicious!!
check it out!!
ingredients
Nonfat cooking spray
1 cup canned pinto beans, rinsed and drained
2 tablespoons bottled sliced jalapeno peppers (optional)
1 cup salsa
4 6-ounce corn tortillas
(or we used flour tortillas)
1/2 cup frozen whole-kernel corn
1/2 cup shredded reduced-fat Monterey jack cheese
1/2 avocado, seeded, peeled, and chopped
1 tablespoon fresh cilantro leaves
directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Lightly coat a 9-inch pie plate with cooking spray.
Mash the beans; stir in jalapeno peppers, if desired. In a skillet cook and stir the beans over medium heat for 2 minutes; set aside.
Spoon 1/4 cup of the salsa into bottom of the pie plate. Layer in order, 1 tortilla, half of the warm beans, another tortilla, the corn, half of the cheese, 1/4 cup more salsa, the third tortilla, remaining beans, remaining tortilla, and salsa. Cover with foil. Bake 12 minutes. (Or, cover with microwave-safe plastic wrap; micro-cook on high power for 4 minutes, giving a half-turn once.) Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake, uncovered, 3 minutes more (or micro-cook 30 seconds more). Sprinkle with avocado and cilantro. Makes 4 main-dish servings

red marbles anyone~

i received this story from a gal in one of my yahoo groups.
i think it is poignant and i will always think of this story
when i see any marble again....
RED MARBLES
I was at the corner grocery store buying some early potatoes. I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily appraising a basket of freshly picked green peas..

I paid for my potatoes but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas. I am a pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes.
Pondering the peas, I couldn't help overhearing the conversation between Mr. Miller (the store owner) and the ragged boy next to me.

'Hello Larry, how are you today?'

'H'lo , Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus' admirin' them peas. They sure look good.'

'They are good, Larry. How's your Ma?'

'Fine. Gittin' stronger alla' time.'

'Good. Anything I can help you with?'

'No, Sir. Jus' admirin' them peas.'

'Would you like to take some home ?' asked Mr.. Miller.

'No, Sir. Got nuthin' to pay for 'em with.'

'Well, what have you to trade me for some of those peas?'

'All I got's my prize marble here.'

'Is that right? Let me see it' said Miller..

'Here 'tis. She's a dandy.'

'I can see that. Hmmmmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go for red. Do you have a red one like this at home ?' the store owner asked.

'Not zackley but almost..'

'Tell you what. Take this sack of peas home with you and next trip this way let me look at that red marble'.. Mr. Miller told the boy.

'Sure will. Thanks Mr. Miller.'

Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby, came over to help me.. With a smile she said, 'There are two other boys like him in our community, all three are in very poor circumstances. Jim just loves to bargain with them for peas, apples, tomatoes, or whatever. When they come back with their red marbles, and they always do, he decides he doesn't like red after all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble or an orange one, when they come on their next trip to the store..'

I left the store smiling to myself, impressed with this man. A short time later I moved to Colorado , but I never forgot the story of this man, the boys, and their bartering for marbles.

Several years went by, each more rapid than the previous one. Just recently I had occasion to visit some old friends in that Idaho community and while I was there learned that Mr... Miller had died.

They were having his visitation that evening and knowing my friends wanted to go, I agreed to accompany them. Upon arrival at the mortuary we fell into line to meet the relatives of the deceased and to offer whatever words of comfort we could.

Ahead of us in line were three young men. One was in an army uniform and the other two wore nice haircuts, dark suits and white shirts....all very professional looking. They approached Mrs. Miller, standing composed and smiling by her husband's casket. Each of the young men hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke briefly with her, and moved on to the casket..

Her misty light blue eyes followed them as, one by one; each young man stopped briefly and placed his own warm hand over the cold pale hand in the casket. Each left the mortuary awkwardly, wiping his eyes.

Our turn came to meet Mrs. Miller. I told her who I was and reminded her of the story from those many years ago and what she had told me about her husband's bartering for marbles. With her eyes glistening, she took my hand and led me to the casket.

'Those three young men who just left were the boys I told you about. They just told me how they appreciated the things Jim 'traded' them. Now, at last, when Jim could not change his mind about colour or size.....they came to pay their debt.'

'We've never had a great deal of the wealth of this world,' she confided, 'but right now, Jim would consider himself the richest man in Idaho.'

With loving gentleness she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased husband.. Resting underneath were three exquisitely shined red marbles.

The Moral: We will not be remembered by our words, but by our kind deeds.... Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath.....
RED MARBLES

treasure hunt~

does anyone know anything about geo-caching ?
well i knew about it all but never had any interest
until now as a friend hooked me up with an application you
can download to my cell!! modern technology!!
its so totally cool, you can search by all these coordinates
and then map it and it takes you right to it.....but then you
have to search around the area...and once you find the cache
you usually sign in or sign in and leave something small...
its like an adult treaasure hunt!!!
it is really pretty cool, there are many close to our home.
jule and i found 3 the first night ..this is a picture
right after finding one
in the woods
behind the library and another one found tonight at

a local cemetery...

changes are here~

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry her
SHe ain't heavy, she's my daughter

So on we go
Her welfare is of my concern
No burden is she to bear
We'll get there
For I know
SHe would not encumber me
SHe ain't heavy, She's my daughter

If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another

It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
SHe ain't heavy,s he's my daughter

SHe's my daugther
SHe ain't heavy, she's my daughter.

***i felt this song was appropriate with a few word changes
as my daughter and her sweet baby will be moving in to
good manor for awhile*****
.....these times they are a changing.....

artfest classes 2010 nina bagley

last thursday was my class with nina bagley..
i just love her style and her use of vintage what nots
of loved ones
forgotten....
in this class we made wall hangings using vintage bookbacks...
below are the two that i made out of an old farm ledger
and assorted vintage finds that i come across...
the little girl piece that i attached on the dress is something from the talented ruth rae that i have for a long time that begged to be taken to pt townsend for the ride...

this was a nice relaxing class to take after much travel and delays....
