look who's back!

tonight julie and i were working on weeding, seriously neglected weeding on the side rose beds and such and look who we found!!! her skin is brown..isnt that strange, i didnt know that their skin can be brown or green? hmmm....they eat at night and are fast enough to catch mosquitoes, moths or flies and can even eat small birds and they can fly..
i really think that they are one of the most beautiful insects i have seen
and am so lucky that i have them in my garden!
that is your biology lesson for today, monday, september 10th...

I just L O V E the shot where she seems to be looking right at you!!! Well, it's settled......she is a faerie who knew what faeriegarden she could safely dwell. I am wanting to name her!!!!!!!! I hope we see more of her and her escapades. Just beautiful.

Thank you, Sweet Pea, for the beautiful card that came Saturday. You are such a blessing and such a sweet faeriegirl. xoxoxoxox Rella

Ohhh..how I wish these wonderful creatures were in my yard...maybe they are and I just can't see them in the 6 foot high prairie grass.

Isn't it amazing that she's already wearing her new fall wardrobe ????

Next year when my son has to collect and display all kinds of bugs for this awful 4th grade project - will you catch them for me! We don't like insects! Although, I must say, THAT one is quite lovely:)

Did you know that the female praying mantis eats the head off of the male praying mantis after copulation ????
They call it sexual cannibalism...very interesting, huh ???
We had caged spiders that did the same thing...although she just killed the male after she produced a large egg sac....she took him and wrapped him up mummy style and then ate him !!!
Biology really is so cool !!!

I really like the praying mantis too. I haven't seen one for a couple of years though. How lucky to have one living in your garden! You got great shots!
